Mbweni Ruins is situated on the West Coast of Zanzibar about 6 km from the Airport and Stone Town. It is set in a beautiful, well-kept garden on a private beach, backing on to the ruins of an old convent that was the former haven of freed slaves. It is home to a vast variety of birds and butterflies and leads down to the beach where mangroves sprout from the sea.
